The Linden Technical Institute (LTI) saw a 25.6% increase in its pass rate this year as 88 students graduated registering a pass rate of 73%.
According to a press release from the Government Information Agency (GINA), in his address at the graduation exercise Minister of Culture Youth and Sport Dr Frank Anthony urged the graduates to “pursue greater knowledge by staying on the educational path.” He also commended LTI’s facilitators on the programme.
LTI Principal Michael Turner commended the performance saying it is cause for much celebration taking into consideration the many constraints faced during the programme such as disruption of classes, industrial action and other outstanding issues not yet resolved. This group comprises the 45th batch of graduates which had 23 more students than before.
Computer Science student Gareil Watson was this year’s valedictorian and Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) student Kevin Jackman was the best graduating student. Turner said the ICE course had a number of top performances with students obtaining two distinctions, six credits and three passes. He said Radio and Electronic Serving recorded 100% passes with the two students who undertook the course earning credits.
The other courses which recorded major achievements were metal machining which gained 100% passes and carpentry and joinery which had 50% passes each. Turner said too the welding and fabrication course continue to show improvements recording one distinction, three credits and six passes this year.
