Guyana’s Allstars Women’s Sevens Team conquered all they encountered in winning the Trinidad Enthusiasts International Invitational Tournament over the weekend.
The Allstars, a combined team drawn from the Hornets and Caribs Rugby Clubs, included most of Guyana’s national team which won the Caribbean Sevens Women’s Championships in Bahamas in October.
The Guyana Allstars defeated the tournament’s defending Champions, USA’s Atlantis Women, 29-5, in the Final of the Women’s tournament. Carren Skeete scored three brilliant tries for the Allstars and Desaun Josiah and Tricia Munroe shared one each. Two tries were converted.
The Women’s tournament featured six teams, including the National Women’s Team of Barbados, a combined St. Lucia and St. Vincent & the Grenadines Team, the Undertakers, and two of Trinidad & Tobago’s senior club teams, Royalians Women and Aranguez Romans.
The Guyana Allstars recovered magnificently from an earlier 22-0 defeat by the American team in the first round of the tournament. The Guyana women handily defeated Barbados, 44- 0, in their opening game of the tournament and went on to defeat the Royalians, 24-10. On day two, the Allstars comfortably disposed of the Undertakers, 24-0, ensuring their place in the finals and, 29-5, victory over the defending American champions Atlantis Women.
The team returns to Guyana this morning.
