Beauties meet the beasts

Basketball and  beauty competitions billed for Cliff Anderson Sports Hall

By Rawle Toney

For the first time ever two events in stark contrast will be on show at the same time at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.

On Sunday two of the country’s top basketball clubs will go head-to-head ,and at the same time some of the country’s most attractive  young ladies will be strutting in a beauty pageant.

The events are being held under the banner of Accomplished Entertain-ment, a group who said that the idea was to have the best of both worlds while bringing something new to the entertainment arena.

Dyna’s Ravens and Courts Pacesetters share a rich history of fierce rivalry and unfinished business. The last time the two sides met, the game was not completed after Ravens walked off the court.  The event was a fundraiser to help Guyana’s female basketball team attend a tournament in Antigua last year.
But things are expected to be even more intense this time since $100,000 and a trophy will be at stake for the winner.

There will also be a Linden versus Georgetown female match, and a winner-take-all game, with $50,000 and a trophy at stake.

And, for the first time, as strange as it sounds, the organisers will be introducing 20/20 basketball.

According to the organisers, games will be played using only two players with each being at opposite ends of the court at the three point line.  The first player to reach 20 points will be declared the winner.
Players will be allowed to score one two-point basket with the remaining points coming from the three-point range.

Therefore, the players will have to score six, three-point baskets and a two-point to reach 20.

Meanwhile in the showdown of the models, the young ladies will battle to see who will be crowned Miss Accomplished Entertainment 2008.

This, the promotional group says, is all in keeping with their mandate to bring new and innovative activities to the sporting public.

Patrons attending the event will also be given a chance to win a free ticket to Trinidad and Tobago’s carnival next year from a special door prize, compliments of Muneshwers Travel Agency.

Meanwhile, some 100 tickets for the Unification Concert next year at the National Park will also be given away.

The gate will be open from 6:00pm with the Georgetown/Linden female game bouncing off the evening’s proceedings.

Immediately after that game spectators will see the models strutting their stuff, followed by the male and female 20/20 shootout.

The grand finale will be the grudge match between Dyna’s Ravens and  Courts Pacesetters.
