The Berbice Cricket Board of Control (BCBC) dream to have its own permanent head office took a step closer to realization last Thursday, when the New Amsterdam Town Council (NATC) donated a plot of land towards the construction of same.
Mayor of New Amsterdam Claude Henry handed over the letter of pledge, and stated that his council was very supportive of sports whilst at the same time, pleased with the development of cricket in the County.
“The BCBC has been doing a fine job over the years, but more so in 2008 and we have seen it fit to make this donation towards the construction of their office. We at the NATC are very supportive towards sports and the development of same in the County of Berbice and will continue to do so in the future.”
Acting president of the BCBC Keith Foster in accepting the letter expressed great delight at the positive response received from the NATC to the BCBC request for a plot of land.
“We at the BCBC and the game of cricket in Berbice are presently undergoing an unprecedented stage of development, as was witnessed in 2008 and as such, a more suitable office is needed. Thanks to the NATC, we have the commitment of land and with such in hand, the BCBC plans to start construction of its office in 2009.”
