Guyana defeat W/Islands by one wicket
Guyana rebounded from their first round loss to Barbados, to defeat the Windward Islands by one wicket when the two met in the second round of the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board of Control (TTCBC) organized Regional Under -17 competition yesterday.
Playing at Wilson Road, the Windward Islands who also lost their first round match to host Trinidad and Tobago (T&T), were limited to 122-9 from their 50 overs, with Kaveem Hodge (23), Rudolph Paul (21) and Dwight Thomas also with 21 being the principal scorers.
West Indies Under-15 leg spinner Amir Khan led the bowling for Guyana with 4-17 whilst fast bowler Seon Daniels continued his impressive showing so far with 3-15 bowling for the Guyanese, who made 123-9 from 49.3 overs in reply.
Essequibo opener Harrell Greene led the way with a polished 30, whilst Daniels returned with the bat to contribute 23 and along with Dayanand Roopnarine and skipper Dexter Solomon who both made 22, with the latter’s innings being an unbeaten one as the Guyanese coasted to victory with three balls to spare.
Both Paul and Hodge returned with the ball to claim two wickets each for 15 and 21 respectively.
