Top junior swimmer Ronaldo Rodrigues captured a gold and a silver medal at the Amateur Swimming Association of Trinidad and Tobago, International Invitational club meet yesterday.
Swimming in the Marlins Swimming Pool at the St Anthony College in West Moorings, Rodrigues, coached by his mother Edna, blitzed a strong field to win the gold medal in the 50m breaststroke in the boys’ 11-12 category.
He completed the distance in a time of 34.96 seconds.
Rodrigues returned later to capture a silver medal in the 200m breaststroke event in a time of 2:52:95.
Though a number of other Guyanese swimmers turned in exceptional performances Rodrigues was the standout performer of the day.
Meanwhile, a number of Guyanese swimmers are through to the finals of the respective events. These include Athena gaskin, Noelle Smith, Akalia Khan, Soroya Simmons, Britany van Lange and Niall Roberts.
The four day competition began on Thursday and involves clubs from six countries including hosts Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana, Barbados, Jamaica, Grenada and St Lucia.
Guyana are represented by clubs Dorado, Orca, Dolphin and Silver Sharks.
