The Central Housing and Planning Authority (CH&PA) is advising that Chairman of the Tuschen Community Development Council (CDC) Neville James was never employed with the agency and is not authorized to conduct business on its behalf.
The statement was made in a Notice in yesterday’s edition of the Guyana Times. This newspaper was told that James was alleged to have sold house lots in the Tuschen New Housing Scheme when he was not authorized to do so.
According to reports, a number of persons had fallen victim to this and large sums of money were reported to have been involved.
The notice was put out by the Chief Executive Officer of the CH&PA and it further stated that persons who have conducted business with James are asked to contact the Land Allocation Department of the Ministry of Housing and Water. Reports out of the East Bank Essequibo community have indicated that James has left the area. It is not clear if the police have become involved in the matter.
Back in January, in an interview, James had told this newspaper that the then Minister of Housing and Water Harrinarine Nawbatt, on a visit to the community late last year, had given persons who have not occupied their house lots in the Tuschen New Scheme, up to last April to start building or else the house lots would be repossessed.
Last month, the CH&PA had been running advertisements to the effect that persons who had house lots and had not built or paid in full were to contact the entity.
