A D’Eward Village, West Coast Berbice man who stopped a car yesterday believing it was a taxi, was robbed at gunpoint of his jewellery and cash by the three occupants inside.
Police said in a release that they are investigating the armed robbery which occurred around 9.30 am at Rosignol during which Suresh Etwaroo was robbed of an undisclosed amount of jewellery and $100,000 cash.
According to the release it was reported that Etwaroo stopped a car with three men inside in the belief that it was a taxi. Etwaroo got into the car and as it travelled along the roadway approaching the Rosignol Stelling, one of the men, who was armed with a handgun, held him up and took away the jewellery he was wearing and his money.
The men then put him out of the vehicle and escaped.
