A 25-year-old Meadowbrook man who allegedly stole an amplifier and two rearview mirrors from a man’s car was granted bail when he appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson on Monday at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.
Shawn Gray of 27 Meadowbrook Gardens pleaded not guilty to the charge of simple larceny.
It is alleged that on December 11, Gray stole an amplifier and two rearview mirrors, totalling $60,000, property of Biko Browne.
“I am accused of a crime that I didn’t do,” stated Gray. He explained that on the day in question he had received a call from a relative who informed him that a motorcycle he was fixing was lodged at the Criminal Investigation Department, Eve Leary, and he had to uplift it. He stated that as he was on his way there he met Browne in his uncle’s shop. “But I didn’t even spend five minutes in deh.” He said that later that day he received another call from a relative who informed him that the police had issued an arrest warrant for him since he had allegedly stolen the amplifier and rear view mirrors while at his uncle’s shop.
However, Browne who was also in court stated that Gray was the only one bracing on his car at the time of the incident. He said that since he had known Gray for some time “I didn’t expect him to do it so when I see he bracing on de car I left he, nobody else won’t just come in de area and thief de thing like duh.”
The prosecution made no objections to Gray’s bail application and the magistrate subsequently granted it in the sum of $50,000. The magistrate then transferred that case to Court Two for February 3.
