The Mayor and City Council has lauded Nigel’s Supermarket for using biodegradable bags in an effort to protect the environment.
In a press release the Council said Nigel’s “has demonstrated that corporations and citizens could be innovative and do much more for the environment.”
Recently the Council had warned that the use and improper disposal of plastic and styrofoam containers were damaging its drainage system.
It said given the fragility of the city’s drainage networks citizens need to pay keen attention to how they treat waterways, reserves and other municipal facilities.
The Council also urged other corporations and businesses to emulate Nigel’s initiative and develop marketing strategies that are compatible with a healthy environment.
