-Ramsammy assures
Health Minister Dr. Leslie Ramsammy says that steps are being put in place to remedy the situation of the National Insurance Scheme (NIS) procuring and dispensing pharmaceutical supplies which are labelled in languages other than English.
The minister told the National Assembly on Monday, that he was aware that pharmaceutical supplies purchased by the NIS for distribution to claimants are labelled in languages other than English.
He said that currently measures have been put in place to ensure that new labels are done locally according to the local requirements and said all future procurements will undergo this process.
Ramsammy said that the government has not changed its policy which requires such supplies to be labelled in English.
This response was given after PNCR-1G MP Mervyn Williams questioned whether government had changed their policy, whether they were aware of the problem with the drugs procured by the NIS and what was Ramsammy doing to remedy the situation.
