The Guyana Agricultural and General Workers Union (GAWU) said it hopes the same spirit that warms hearts during the Christmas season continues into the new year.
In a press release GAWU said Christmas occurs within a period that ushers in a new calendar year and hope which is one of the reasons it touches all ethnicities. In this regard GAWU said it hopes citizens can maintain the same spirit and rally through the new year in the face of worsening economic conditions globally.
GAWU said the year brought several disagreements between central and local government and the municipalities though citizens were bolstered by the security forces efforts to make the nation safe. It said too unions will continue to struggle for their members rights and improved conditions. GAWU said government and citizens must continue to collaborate to tackle the threat of floods and to offer comfort to those who have suffered losses.
