A father of five who allegedly received a stolen television from a man was granted bail on Friday when he appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.
Thirty-one-year-old Collin Hooper of 33 James Street, Albouystown pleaded not guilty to the charge of receiving stolen property.
It is alleged that on December 18, Hooper received from Quacy Howes a television, property of Christopher North, knowing that it was stolen or unlawfully obtained.
However, Hooper’s lawyer Adrian Thompson stated that this was a case where the television was not found on his client but on someone else who was previously charged with break and enter and larceny.
He noted that the only reason that the charge was brought against his client was because one of the persons who was allegedly involved in the case told the police that his client was also involved.
Last week Friday, four men who had allegedly broken into North’s home while he was out of the country and stolen two five-piece music sets, a television, a quantity of clothing, shoes and hats, totalling over $2.6M had appeared before Magistrate Robertson.
Devon Rodney had pleaded guilty to the charge of break and enter and larceny while Quacy Howes, Robert Noble and Neville Haynes had pleaded not guilty. Rodney had been remanded to prison while Howes, Noble and Haynes were placed on bail in the sum of $200,000 each.
They will appear back in court on January 13.
Meanwhile, the prosecution stated that the police acting upon information received, searched Hooper’s home where the television was recovered.
The magistrate subsequently granted Hooper bail in the sum of $70,000 and ordered that he return to court on January 13.
