Three Venezuelans who had entered Guyana illegally were ordered to pay a fine of $30, 000 each when they appeared on Tuesday before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.
Alejandio Britto, Adelso Ardila and Jesus Goniez had all pleaded guilty to the charge of illegal entry into Guyana.
It is alleged that on December 24, at Pomeroon, Essequibo Coast, the trio entered Guyana illegally, that is to say that they failed to present themselves to an Immigration Officer.
The trio who had a Spanish to English translator stated that they did not know that they had to present themselves to an Immigration Officer when they came into the country “back track”.
The magistrate subsequently ordered that the trio pay the fine or alternatively be imprisoned for 12 months.
