Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson on Friday granted bail in the sum of $30,000 to a 17-year-old boy charged with larceny.
Michael Cameron of 18 New Scheme, Diamond, East Bank Demerara, pleaded not guilty to the charge of larceny from the person when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.
It is alleged that on New Year’s Day, Cameron stole a cellular phone valued $100,000 and a SIM card valued $1,000 from Elizabeth Morris.
In his petition for bail the teen’s lawyer said it was the first time that he had been charged with a crime. He also noted that the phone had been recovered.
However, the prosecution submitted that Cameron harassed and cursed Morris when he snatched the phone from her and ran away. He was later apprehended by police and the phone found in his pocket.
