A 40-year-old vendor yesterday appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson to answer to the charge of simple larceny.
It was alleged that on January 7, Frankie Persaud of Port Kaituma stole a pair of jeans costing $3,000, from Giftland Office Max.
Persaud pleaded guilty with explanation. He explained that he had only picked up the jeans and looked at it, before deciding to leave the store.
“My worship, when I finish looking at de jeans I put it down back collect me bag an lef de store. I din thief no jeans,” he said.
The magistrate then entered a not guilty plea for Persaud.
However, the police prosecutor told the court that Persaud had tucked the jeans away into an umbrella and was preparing to leave the store when he was caught by the security guard.
He was placed on $6,000 bail and is to return to court on February 6.
