A 20-year-old woman, who allegedly broke and entered the dwelling of another woman and stole a portable DVD player among other items, was remanded to prison on Friday when she appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.
Samantha Charran of Sixth Street, Campbellville, pleaded not guilty to the charge of break and enter and larceny.
It is alleged that on January 13, at Campbellville, Charran broke and entered the dwelling of Roxanne George and stole a portable DVD player, a pedal bicycle and a quantity of cash, totalling $43,000.
Prosecutor Sherwin Matthews stated that the DVD player and the bicycle were recovered from a man to whom Charran had sold them.
However, Charran stated that, “I was going in de place when it was broken into.” She said that she shared the house that was broken into with George and on the day in question she had seen a man with the items mentioned in the charge.
She said that as she was entering the house the man gave her the DVD player and the bicycle to sell cause, “he seh is he own.” She stated that she had not known that the articles belonged to George so she sold them to another man.
The magistrate subsequently ordered that Charran be remanded to prison and that she return to court on January 26.
