The man accused of killing Orilly Lally of Aranaputa Valley yesterday appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.
It was alleged that on January 19 at around 9 pm Lally and four other men were consuming alcohol when an argument erupted between him and one of the men. “The argument later developed into an altercation during which it is alleged that Lally was chopped to his neck with a cutlass and died,” a police statement said.
Michael Baksh of Aranaputa Valley, North Rupununi was not required to plead to the indictable charge when it was read to him. When given a chance to respond, the 25-year-old declined to say anything.
Baksh was refused bail and remanded to prison. His matter was transferred to the Lethem Magistrate’s Court for March 23.
