Dear Editor,
A small group styling itself ‘The Consumer Movement of Guyana’ has been sending letters to various businesses and other entities making appeals for donations of money and in kind. The most recent of such appeals was for money to be spent on a trip to one of the West Indian islands to attend a meeting.
Some of the businesses who were approached were quite puzzled since the Guyana Consumers’ Association (GCA) had never made such appeals, as such are contrary to the tenets of consumerism. They therefore got in touch with the GCA to enquire into this matter.
Some people who were approached by this self-styled ‘Consumer Movement of Guyana’ mistakenly thought that the GCA had some kind of connection with this group, only to discover that the group was using the overall generic name ‘Consumer Movement’ which could both confuse and deceive.
The Guyana Consumers’ Association (GCA) would like to emphatically underline that this so-called ‘Consumer Movement’ has no connection whatsoever with the Guyana Consumers’ Association and its attempts to collect money and other things from members of the public has never been a policy of the GCA.
Yours faithfully,
Eileen Cox AA
