“He grab meh hand and then give me three box to meh face before he snatch de chain and run,” stated Ullani Ali, who was robbed of a gold chain as she was about to enter a bus at the South Bus Park.
At the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court on Monday, Oswald Wayne, 24, of 10 B Tucville pleaded not guilty to the charge of larceny from the person when Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson read it to him.
It is alleged that on January 21, Wayne stole a gold chain valued $80,000 from Ali.
Ali stated that she was on her way to catch a bus at the South Bus Park when Wayne walked up behind her and tried to grab her chain from her neck. She said that when his attempts failed, he turned her around and dealt her three slaps before gripping and bursting the chain. She said that Wayne then fled the area.
Wayne’s lawyer, Vic Puran applied for bail for his client on the grounds that he is the father of a 27-day-old baby and that he had an unblemished record in the court.
The magistrate then placed Wayne on bail in the sum of $60,000 and transferred the case to Court Two for March 14.
