Copies of the Arts Journal (Volume 4 numbers 1 and 2 of 2008) were yesterday presented to seven secondary schools by the Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry (GBTI) Limited.
The seven recipients are: Anna Regina Multilateral School, the Bishops’ High School, MacKenzie High School, President’s College, Queen’s College, St Rose’s High School and the St Stanislaus College.
The presentation was made at simple ceremony at the bank’s Water Street George-town office.
The Arts Journal provides fresh critical perspectives on contemporary history, literature, art and culture of Guyana and the Caribbean and is an excellent resource material for CSEC and CAPE students.
GBTI’s Officer-in-Charge of Research and Planning Sean Noel, who delivered the opening remarks, expressed pleasure on behalf of the bank in making presentations and to be associated with the gesture, which seeks to contribute to the development of young people.
The journal he stated “has the ability of having a profound impact on the cultural and educational upbringing of students.”
Editor of the Arts Journal, Ameena Gafoor, who also spoke at the ceremony, said that the journal aims to generate a greater appreciation for the cultural fabric of the society. She added that it should encourage a love for critical thinking through reading, thus enhancing the education process.
Gafoor has also issued a call for more businesses to walk in the footsteps of GBTI in playing such a pivotal role in the educational well-being of students.
The presentation of the journals was made by Collette Lyken, Manager-Human Resources and Administration of GBTI.
