The National Park is expected to come alive this evening with high-class gospel entertainment from both international and local gospel artistes. The show which is billed as “Freedom Step” will be headlined by international gospel reggae band Christafari, along with respected gospel reggae artistes Monty G from the USA and Bahamian Superstar Mr Lynx. Overseas-based Guyanese singer “De Warrior”, who was formerly known as Daddy I-Roy, is also slated to perform.
Director of Swansea Associations Inc. and Head of the promotions team Christian Duncan, says that purpose of this initiative is to stage an event that is violence free and one that can have a positive influence. He says that the event does not seek to cast negative aspirations on anyone but serves solely to inspire positive choices for spiritual upliftment and revival in Guyana.
Meanwhile, promoter Kester D says that the concert is a “family affair”, which is set to appeal to persons of all age groups. According to him, both the young and the not so young would be able to enjoy top class gospel performances from both the foreign and local acts. Among the local performers slated to perform are Kester D himself, Cheryl Maloney, Miriam Williams, Eddie Neblett and Solid Youth, all of whom have firmly established themselves as talented and crowd-pleasing performers.
Speaking about the international performers, Kester D told The Scene that this is the second time Christafari will be performing in Guyana.
The US- based group can be described as seasoned performers, since they have performed in over 40 countries. The 10-member band is led by its lead vocalist and founder Pastor Mark Mohr.
Monty-G is a singer with strong Caribbean roots having spent a significant part of his life in the Bahamas. This will be his first time performing locally, but he has been heating up the gospel charts in the USA and internationally.
For Mr. Lynx, this will be his second trip to Guyana in less than a year. In August, he was one of the guest artistes who performed at the gospel concert held during the Carifesta festivities.
Kester D meanwhile is urging all Guyanese to come out and support the son of the soil “De Warrior”, who he described as a transformed artiste. “Daddy I-Roy is a changed performer,” he told The Scene.
Meanwhile patrons who turn up will have an opportunity to participate in the “Freedom Step Dance Competition”, where prizes will be up for grabs.
The show starts at 6 pm and tickets cost $1,500, while children under 10 will be admitted free. Tickets are available at Swansea, Church’s Chicken, Everything Music and at Nigel’s Supermarket.
