Newly-elected secretary of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) Anand Sanasie visited the nearly completed Essequibo Cricket Board (ECB) hostel in Anna Regina last Saturday.
In an invited comment to Stabroek Sport, Sanasie said that his trip to the Cinderella County was more of a fact-finding mission than anything else.
“I wanted to have a first hand look at what was taking place with regards to certain issues involving Essequibo’s cricket, especially the hostel, as I was trying to find out the reason Essequibo’s cricket is at its present stage.
“The trip was quite a revealing one, as honestly, I never knew that Suddie had such a magnificent facility. As a matter of fact, during my tour there, coach Forbes Daniels had approximately 25 young U-15 cricketers taking them through their paces in preparation for the upcoming GCB/Clico under-15 Inter-county championships,” Sanasie added. The 43-year-old Sanasie, who is also the president of the West Demerara Cricket Association and vice president of the Demerara Cricket Board (DCB), said he planned to work with all the counties and area boards. He also stated that he was pleased with the stage the county’s hostel was at right now adding that he took the opportunity to have a discussion with the Marketing Committee of the ECB.
“The hostel is in its final stages of completion and it will be completed on time. I met with the executives and we discussed the problems with regards to the hostel, including furnishing the building and as much as possible, I will be feeding back the information to the GCB.
“I had a discussion with the Competitions Committee of the ECB and we looked at ways in which we can improve their cricket. Whilst I will be in the background from time to time, I intend to be at the forefront with certain issues, as cricket not only in Essequibo but Guyana needs a boost,” said Sanasie.
Sanasie, who replaced Bish Panday as secretary of the GCB in the last elections, was accompanied on the tour by newly-elected president of the ECB Sheik Ahmad, vice-president Faizool Bacchus, secretary Linden Daniels and former vice-president of the GCB Malcolm Peters.
Sanasie said that he plans to have a meeting with the former secretary.
“He (Panday) has been around a long time and would have lots of ideas towards the development of cricket in Guyana, so I will be meeting with him shortly to discuss that amongst other things in the interest of Guyana’s cricket.”
