The Guyana Manufacturing and Services Association Ltd in collaboration with Sobey School of Business, St Mary’s University, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada will be hosting a seminar for manufacturers on ‘Sustainable Manufacturing’ on February 19th at the Cheddi Jagan Research Centre (Red House) from 9:00am to 11:00am.
The GMSA in a release said that a presentation will be done by Dr Harvey Millar who has more than 20 years experience as a researcher, lecturer and consultant in the area of production management.
The association referred to ‘sustainable manufacturing’ as adopting manufacturing strategies and activities that meet the needs of the enterprise and its stakeholders today, while protecting, sustaining and embracing the human and natural resources that will be needed in the future.
The association also noted that today consumers and governments are placing increasing pressures on manufacturers to green their operations and rather than undertake a reactive response, several firms are approaching the issue of sustainability as an opportunity to differentiate themselves and to build competitive advantage.
