Corriverton Links receive awards

The Corriverton Links U-15 football team recently walked off with the championships trophy and three individual awards at the presentation ceremony of the Berbice Football Association (BFA) junior league tournament.

The tournament, which was held under the auspices of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF), saw Corriverton Links playing unbeaten in the seven-round competition.

Second place was occupied by New Amsterdam FC with 16 points. They received a trophy and 15 silver medals while Paradise Invaders FC, who squeezed out Hearts of Oak Juniors FC by 14 points to 13,  received a trophy and 15 bronze medals.

Hearts of Oak Juniors FC received 15 bronze medals.

In the individual awards, Corriverton’s Albert Anderson, with 11 goals in seven matches, received the highest goal scorer award.

His teammate Dwayne Edwards, won the coveted best goal-keeper award while another teammate Tyrone Pineux was declared the most valuable player.

Paradise Invaders’ Akeem Hutson, who scored six goals in the tournament, won the most improved player award.

Meanwhile BFA’s secretary Joseph Simon commended Neil “Grizzly” Humphrey for his contribution to the tournament and Kenrick Bowry for successfully  coordinating same.

The management of the New Amsterdam Prisons who allowed their facilities and ground to be used for the tournament also received a special thank you from Simon.
