Chairman of the Compet-itions Committee of the West Demerara Cricket Association Lalta Digamber says that the New Line Aqua Farm 20/20 competition will be completed soon. Digamber added that they were hoping the complete the tournament before any other competition by the Demerara Cricket Board (DCB) commences.
According to Digamber, the competition was affected by the inclement weather at the end of 2008 which caused the competition to spill over to 2009. The competition, which is played in two categories, Premier (Group A), and Development (Group B), have reached the semi-finals and finals respectively.
The Development final will see Uitvlugt taking on Wales. The final which was set for Saturday will now take place on February 21. The two Premier semi-finals featuring Zeeburg, McGill Sports Club, Cultural Cricket Club and Canal # 2 Sports Club will be played subsequently. And the sponsors are hoping for the weather to hold up. Meanwhile, the trial matches for the selection of the Demerara Under-15 team to contest the Inter-County competition are underway at the Uitvlugt and Wales Community Centre grounds. The team is expected to be named by this weekend.
