File on Blankenburg fatal accident with DPP

The police file on the death of 32-year-old Blankenburg, West Coast Demerara resident, Daniel Damon has been sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for ad-vice, Commander of ‘D’ Divi-sion, Paulette Morrison says.

Damon died on January 28 after being hit by a car. Police, in a statement at the time had said that Damon was riding a motorcycle and investigations revealed that motor car PKK 6105 was proceeding along the Blankenburg roadway with the motorcyclist in front of him, when the driver of the car reportedly swerved from a vehicle that was proceeding in the opposite direction and collided with the motorcyclist.

Damon was subsequently taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival

His mother, Mabin Damon, yesterday told this newspaper that the two families have had talks with regards to a settlement in the matter. She said that the parents of the driver of the car, who is out on bail, had paid some expenses relating to the burial but there were other expenses. The woman stated that her husband had contacted the police yesterday and they reportedly said that they were waiting on the family (Damon’s) before deciding how to proceed with the matter and had given them up to Thursday to make a decision.

Morrison, when contacted yesterday said that the file had been sent to the DPP.
