Four men and a woman are in police custody following two separate marijuana discoveries in Berbice on Monday.
In the first incident the woman was held after the drug was found in the food box she had taken to the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court for her brother, a remand prisoner.
A police release said that around 10:30 am the woman was arrested after 3 grammes of marijuana were found by the police in a box of food that she was taking for her brother.
Her sibling is currently before the court for charges of robbery under arms and was attending court at the time.
She is in custody and charges will be laid shortly.
In the other incident, the release said, a motor car HB 5921 was stopped and searched by police at a roadblock at Palmyra, Corentyne around 7.45 pm.
During the checks one kilogramme of marijuana was concealed in the vehicle.
Four men were arrested and are in police custody assisting with the investigations.
