The koker door damaged by high tides on Wednesday was the De Kinderen koker and not the one at Stewartville, Chairman of Region Three, Julius Faerber has clarified.
The Government Information Agency (GINA) in a release had stated that the Stewartville, West Coast Demerara koker was damaged by the high tides, causing the sluice door to fracture. However, when contacted yesterday, Faerber said that it was the De Kinderen koker, which is located between De Kinderen and Meten-Meer-Zorg, which had been damaged.
The Chairman said that maintenance work continued on the koker yesterday but could not say whether it had been completed. He said that there had been no flooding due to the damaged door.
Meantime, work has been done by the Guyana Sugar Corporation and the Sea Defence Unit at the Cornelia Ida River koker, where sections of the seawall close to the structure had been caving in and while there is still some more work to be done, it is about 70% better than it was previously, Faerber said.
