Concerns of members of the Guyana Petrol Station Dealers Association regarding their contracts and the price of kerosene and gasoline at SOL’s pumps were matters Minister of Tourism, Industry and Commerce Manniram Prashad discussed with SOL’s Manager Ken Figaro on Monday.
A release from the ministry said that Figaro promised to address the concerns of the association regarding their contracts which will be issued shortly by SOL, the new owner of ESSO and Shell.
Minister Prashad had met with members of the association on January 29 when these concerns were raised.
Prashad also noted that consumers are unhappy with the kerosene price at SOL’s pumps and he urged Figaro to take swift action in addressing the disparity in prices in the interest of consumers.
The release stated that kerosene is being sold at SOL stations at $1,205 per gallon and at GUYOIL for $472 per gallon.
According to the release Figaro said SOL had purchased kerosene at an exorbitant price when there was an increase in the world market and when the price was reduced it was left with a significant amount of kerosene.
Figaro said, however, that the company is currently reviewing its selling price with the aim of reducing the cost.
The release also stated that Prashad raised the matter of the price of gasoline at SOL stations which is selling gasoline at $620.55 per gallon as opposed to $549 at GUYOIL stations.
And Figaro assured the minister that a new shipment of gasoline is scheduled to arrive shortly and prices would be adjusted accordingly.
