Two men believed to have carried out an armed robbery at Timehri yesterday during which two men were robbed of cash, jewellery and a Toyota Tundra, were later caught in Agricola as they attempted to flee from the police in a car.
The stolen Tundra with US$10,000 inside was later recovered in the Timehri area.
Police said in a release yesterday that a quick response by ranks resulted in the arrest of two men who are suspected to have carried out the armed robbery which occurred around 12:30 pm.
Surendra Etwaroo, 39 years of Soesdyke, EBD, and Lorenzo Chriandy, 36 years, were at a restaurant at Timehri, the release said when they were held at gunpoint by two men. The perpetrators then took away their jewellery which they were wearing at the time and the key to their Toyota Tundra vehicle GLL 4818 and escaped in the vehicle.
The matter was reported to the police who recovered the Toyota Tundra abandoned in the Timehri area and also recovered US$10,000 which was also in the vehicle.
Acting on information received that the suspects were heading for the city in a motor car, the police stopped a Toyota Carina AT 212 motor car PKK 6816 at a roadblock, the driver of which tried to outrun the police by diverting into Agricola. However, the police gave chase and caught up with the vehicle and arrested the two men who were inside, the release added.
The men are in police custody along with the motor car as investigations continue.
