BP did not seek comments from the Office of the Commissioner of Insurance

Dear Editor,
In this response to BP’s article, ‘Addressing the Clico issue’ dated February 8, 2009, I welcome BP’s inclusion of insurance companies, and trust that this examination of an insurance company’s financials is one of many more to come. Hopefully this will enable better informed decisions, greater peace of mind and improved accountability to all parties. I accept that my office may also be criticised, even if such criticism is unfounded as was the case in the aforementioned article.
Mr Ram did not seek my comments on the activities of the Office of the Commissioner of Insurance in this matter, so I was somewhat surprised by his assertions and suppositions. I hope I can be of assistance the next time.
