A 30-year-old man attached to the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission is now dead after succumbing to injuries received when a tree fell on him. Dead is Ravel Dale La Rose of Moruca, North West District.
According to the police, last Thursday at approximately 2 pm, La Rose and six other men were in a camp at Unamco Road, Upper Berbice River, when high winds caused a tree to fall on the camp. La Rose was injured during the incident and later succumbed to these injuries. The other men escaped unharmed.
One of the men, who was in the camp at the time, told this newspaper that the team was in the area doing gold exploration. He said that the group had set up camp at the location since February 3.
On the day of the incident, the man said that the group had finished working for the day and returned to the camp to eat and rest when the incident occurred.
The body of the dead man is currently at the Lyken Funeral Parlour awaiting a post-mortem examination.
La Rose was a former national swimmer and a swimming coach.
