The body of a man was discovered by Greenfield residents in a canal which runs parallel to the Clonbrook Public Road yesterday afternoon.
According to a Greenfield resident, who requested anonymity, he made the discovery at approximately 5.45 pm. The man said he was walking along the stretch of road when he saw the body “floating” in the canal. An alarm was immediately raised by him and other residents of Greenfield assisted in getting the body out of the water.
“Nobody knows who the man is…we spread the word around and waited to see if someone would come to identify him but no one did,” the resident said.
Further, the resident told this newspaper that there were no visible marks of violence on the body. Meanwhile, other residents reported seeing the man earlier that day and, according to them, he appeared to be intoxicated.
“I figure he get drunk and fall overboard and drown,” one woman opined.
The police were informed, residents said, and after they conducted their necessary procedures the body was taken away by the Lyken’s Funeral Parlour.
Greenfield residents who aided in removing the body from the canal said that the man is of East Indian descent and appeared to be in his mid-thirties.
