A 44-year-old man who broke into the storeroom of his employer and stole a quantity of items was sentenced to two years imprisonment when he appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

Wilbert Waddle of Pike Street, Kitty, pleaded guilty to the charge of break and enter and larceny.

Between February 1 and 13 this year, Waddle broke and entered the storeroom of Bobby Naraine and stole three plastic tables, several plastic chairs, a quantity of bulbs and 12  glass bottles, totalling $79,100.

Waddle said that the storeroom was not locked and he would normally sleep there. He said he had worked for Naraine for some time and every time something went missing Naraine would always accuse him of stealing it. He said the bottles were of no use to Naraine so he took them and added that Naraine had given him permission to take the bulbs.

However, Prosecutor Denise Griffith said Waddle was employed by Naraine as a handyman.

She said that Naraine did not check the storeroom for several days but when he eventually did, he found it had been broken into and the articles were missing. She said he immediately contacted Waddle who admitted stealing the items.

The magistrate subsequently sentenced Waddle to two years imprisonment.
