Nalico/Nafico yesterday continued its support of youth cricket by sponsoring the Demerara Cricket Board (DCB) Under-15 inter association competition for the third straight year.
Speaking at the launch of the competition DCB president, Bissoondial Singh, praised the sponsors stating that the inter-association tournament will be played in a round robin format.
According to Singh, Demerara was divided into four zones namely Georgetown, West Demerara, East Coast Demerara and East Bank Demerara.
The seven-game competition will see Georgetown playing West Demerara and East Coast versus East Bank in the first two matches tentatively set for Thursday.
Singh, though, did not name a venue.“We want to play these games at the biggest, best venue available, we would like to play at the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) ground or Everest,” he disclosed.
The competition being sponsored to the tune of $400,000. Meanwhile, Nalico/Nafico’s manager, Shivraj Singh, said that his company was happy to be associated with the competition as the development of youths was something that they were glad to be associated with.
Singh added that the company was also glad to give back to the community as a whole.
No entrance fees will be charged for the limited overs tournament in an effort to attract parents and other persons to the matches.
