A woman is in police custody assisting with investigations following the fatal stabbing of a miner at Kurupung Landing, Middle Mazaruni on Sunday.
Dead is Mohamed Talbot of Third Avenue, Bartica. The suspect is his reputed wife.
The Tuesday edition of the Kaieteur News in reporting on the incident referred to a press release from the Police Public Relations Office. However up to press time on Monday this newspaper had received no such release.
Asked about this yesterday the PRO Ivelaw Whittaker said that he sent it on Monday and when informed that no such release with that information was received by Stabroek News, he told the reporter to “check the system”.
Up to press time last evening, there was still no release.
Stabroek News Editor-in-Chief Anand Persaud said he was perturbed at the selective dissemination of the release and it had been an ongoing problem which the police force has not been able to address despite repeated complaints by this newspaper.
Contacted on this latest murder, Crime Chief Seelall Persaud said that the deceased and the woman operated a shop at the Landing.
On Sunday last, according to reports, he said the two had an argument during which the woman picked up a knife and reportedly dealt Talbot a stab to his chest.
The man succumbed to the injury before receiving medical attention.
Persaud also confirmed that both the deceased and the suspect were flown to the city and landed at the Ogle Aerodrome on Monday afternoon.
The Crime Chief stated that ranks are still at the location conducting investigations.
The body is at the Lyken’s Funeral Home awaiting a post-mortem examination.
This is the fourth reported murder to have occurred last weekend.
Last Saturday, Deborah Allen of Oronoque, Port Kaituma, North West District was hacked to death by her husband following an argument. The man, who also wounded her 16-year-old daughter, is still at large.
Then early the following morning, the bloodied bodies of Nekecia Rouse and her sister-in-law, Alexis ‘Keisha’ George were discovered in Smythfield, New Amsterdam. They were stabbed to death.
