Albert Semple won his first major title when he carted off the President’s Medal Play Golf tournament last Saturday at Lusignan Golf Course (LGC).
Playing off a 28 handicap, Semple had a gross score of 98 to finish with a net 70 to top the field of 24 players under perfect conditions.
The second position was taken by Mike Guyadin (handicap) 17 who recorded a gross 88 to end with a net 71 while third place finisher was 2008 Guyana Open female champion Christine Sukhram (handicap 8) who recorded a gross 80 to end with a net 72.
The tournament was sponsored by President of the LGC Mel Sankies, who extended his gratitude to the players for participating in the second major competition this season as the local players fine tune their game in preparation for their participation in the Suriname Open Golf tournament next month in the neighbouring Republic.
Officials of the LGC disclosed that so far 10 players have expressed an interest in participating in the tournament sponsored by RBTT and billed for March 13-15 in Paramaribo.
The Surinamese had sent a large contingent to the Guyana Open tournament in November last year and the LGC will be looking to send a large team to Paramaribo as efforts are in train to promote the sport between the two South American neighbours.
