Dear Editor,

A national integrity commission must be both respected and accepted by the public and the main political stakeholders. Up until now it does not have those necessary requirements which result in it being non-functional. The politicians have to keep quiet discussions going until they agree on the personnel. There are still capable and decent people left in Guyana but the politicians have to look beyond their respective circles and the members will be found.

The personnel who would be most exposed to the temptation of corruption are the ministers and those who run the administration because they are ones who wield power. The opposition MPs have no power and so cannot extort bribes.
