Muslim Aid recently donated a number of recreational games and equipment to the Shaheed boys and girls orphanages.
According to a press release the games included table tennis boards, pools tables, basketball equipment, dominoes, darts boards, monopoly, chess, checkers and other indoor games. They cost more then $500,000. The items were handed over to the orphanages on Friday.
The release said the games were bought from funds the charity raised through Eid Fest IV. Funds were also contributed from an Eid Festival and Fun Day hosted recently at the Anna Catherina Islamic Complex.
It also said more than 125 children from jamaats on the East Bank Demerara, East and West Coast and Georgetown attended the festival along with the orphans.
Meanwhile, Secretary of the orphanage board Hakeem Khan commended Muslim Aid for its donation. He also commended President of the Caribbean Islamic Cultural Society of London Mohamed Rashied for his “selfless and dedicated work” and for securing the donation.
