The decomposing body of a 50-year-old man was yesterday morning found in the van he had called home for the past two years.
Dead is Lakhram Hantal whose bloated remains were discovered in a derelict Dodge vehicle parked at the side of the La Bonne Intention (LBI) public road.
Though Hantal is believed to have died from natural causes, police are awaiting the results of a post-mortem examination.
When Stabroek News arrived on the scene, many persons had gathered and several relatives were crying.
The police had already begun their investigations.
Hantal who was clad in a burgundy shirt and blue pants was lying face up on a piece of sponge. His daughter Tresha amidst tears said that the man once lived at Lot 133 Sixth Street, LBI and would sleep in the old vehicle.
She said that he survived by doing odd jobs for persons in the area including weeding and cleaning yards. The woman told the media that her father was a mechanic but after he began abusing alcohol he started living on the streets.
The woman recalled that she last saw her father on Monday night but heard that he had `fits’ the following morning at a shop in the area. She said that this is a condition he suffered from.
She received the tragic news from her husband’s employer. Hantal also leaves behind two sons. His wife died eleven years ago.
