A twenty-one-year-old man who allegedly used a cutlass to rob two men of a quantity of cash and several other items was remanded to prison yesterday when he appeared before Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.
Keith Andrews of Norton Street, Lodge, was not required to plead to two indictable counts of robbery under arms.
It is alleged that on February 24, Andrews used a cutlass to rob Kamo Fernandes of a quantity of cash and a cell phone, totalling $16,000. He is also accused of using a cutlass on the same day to rob Jermaine Reddock of a quantity of cash, two silver rings and two cell phones, totaling $74,000.
However, Andrews’s lawyer Patrice Henry stated that his client had an unblemished record and he noted that no identification parade was ever conducted by the police in the matter. The defence attorney then applied for bail.
Meanwhile, Prosecutor Clement Roberts stated that an identification parade was conducted and both Fernandes and Reddock positively identified Andrews as the person who had robbed them.
The magistrate subsequently ordered that Andrews be remanded to prison and that he appear back in court on March 16.
