Rabindranauth Seeram, coach of the Guyana national cricket team is a pleased man. And so too is his team.
For the first time this season smiles could be seen on the faces of the players in their dressing room yesterday.
The reason for the smiles was due to the fact that Guyana were able to dismiss the Windward Islands for 215 just after 15:45hrs, making it the first time this season that Guyana had been able to dismiss an opponent inside the first day’s play.
In an invited comment with Stabroek Sport Seeram stated that despite his elation he was still calling on the bowlers to be consistent and exercise more patience.
“Our bowlers went out there and did their job effectively, applying themselves very well as they did not give the batsmen much of a chance. They were well backed up in the field, whilst the captain did well to rotate his bowlers.”
Guyana’s bowlers have struggled to dismiss teams this season, with Trinidad and Tobago and Jamaica accumulating over 400 runs against them at the National Stadium at Providence forcing Seeram and skipper Dowlin to call on the bowlers to exercise patience and consistency.
“At times you could have seen them being impatient out there, even though we were looking to apply pressure.
However, we were able to do so after lunch as we asked the bowlers to put the ball in the right areas that we felt they were weak in,” said Seeram.
“On a pitch that was good for batting, we thought about keeping one end tight thus we employed the pace/spin combination even though we have two frontline spinners in the line-up and, with the fast bowlers keeping one end tight, the spinners were applying added pressure at the other end.”
Seeram is hoping that the bowlers apply the same pressure in the second innings as Guyana hunt their first victory in this year’s tournament.
They lost their first four matches outright before securing back-to-back draws against T&T and Jamaica.
