Defending champions to face E’bo today
Defending champions Demerara will open the defence of their Guyana Cricket Board (GCB)/Castrol sponsored Under-15 Inter-county cricket competition today when they face Essequibo at the Anna Regina ground.
President of the GCB Chetram Singh said that the GCB is looking to decentralize cricket and he noted that this year’s tournament will be played on a limited overs format over two days with the matches being 50 overs-a-side.
All three counties have listed their teams for this tournament and the Cinderella County will be hosting the first two rounds while the Demerara/Berbice clash will be held at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence.
Demerara will be under the astute leadership of 14-year-old Malteenoes Sports Club off spinning all rounder Shaquille Williams, who earlier led Georgetown to the retention of the Demerara Cricket Board (DCB)/Nalico/Nafico Under-15 Inter-association tournament.
Essequibo, who began their preparations earlier this year, will be led by Ricardo Adams while Berbice who look like the stronger team on paper will be under the leadership of Shawn Pereira.
