Defending champions Demerara easily disposed of Essequibo by five wickets in their rain-reduced encounter of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB)/Castrol sponsored Under-15 Inter-county tournament at the Anna Regina Community Centre ground yesterday. Winning the toss and opting to take first strike in the match which was reduced to 44 overs –a-side due to seepage on the pitch, Essequibo reached 132-9 from their allotted overs with Ahmad Khan 26 and Vijai Suratpaul 16 being the principal scorers. Bowling for Demerara skipper Shaquille Williams grabbed 2-25 and Christopher Surat 2-26.
In reply, Demerara reached 133-5 from 42.2 overs with Chanderpaul Hemraj 37 and Sunil Rupee 27 the top scorers.
The two shared a 54-run, third-wicket partnership after coming together at 31-2 following the loss of Brian Sattaur and Surat for 04 and 14 respectively.
The first match between the two sides was rained out on Saturday. The tournament will continue tomorrow and Wednesday at the same venue with Essequibo hosting Berbice in their two matches. Berbice and Demerara will meet in the final round this weekend at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence.
