Dear Editor,
I am writing to express frustration, disgust and disappointment with GWI’s response to reports of an overflow of sewage in a passageway at Lot 109 and 110 Carmichael Street, North C/Burg.
The sewage started to overflow on 20.2.09 and since then on each working day. Four affected residents have called several times on each day to inform GWI of the overflow on tel no 227-8701. All that the woman who answered the call asked for was my account number and to inform me that the workers were in the field.
But when I called again, she was very discourteous, and in a very rude manner stated, “I told you already they are in the field; you keep calling over and over for the same thing.” On the third day, I called again and received the same rude response from the said staff member.
The sewage keeps flowing and is making the lives of a considerable number of residents very uncomfortable.
GWI’s service delivery is below the acceptable standard. The programmes they air on NCN 11 are not translated into timely deliverables and can only be deemed misleading and an undue waste of money.
The residents of the North Cummingsburg ward have long been suffering from very, very low water pressure, and this lack of response to reports about a matter which is a health hazard leaves much to be desired. The situation has reached such a state of discomfort that one prominent resident went into the office and met several officers in an attempt to have the situation corrected. All he was told was that they had the report on the computer. Again he had to summit his name and account number − but to no avail.
This is the degree of callousness and the type of service that GWI is giving us. I would like the Minister of Housing and Water to take note. It is like the tail wagging the head; the systems put in place to deal with complaints in a timely manner are not working.
Yours faithfully,
R. Singh
