The National Blood Transfusion Service (NBTS) yesterday issued an urgent call for blood of all types since it is now experiencing a severe shortage.
The NBTS said in a press release that it is asking persons to urgently donate blood. In addition to the many people who need blood at hospitals, a number of open heart surgeries are scheduled for Saturday and the shortage of blood could affect these surgeries.
“In order for these surgeries not to be affected and in order to help the hundreds of people in our hospitals who need blood now, we need all donors to come forward urgently,” the NBTS stated
To make a donation please visit the National Blood Transfusion Service, Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation Compound, Lamaha Street, Georgetown where the opening hours are 8:00 am – 6:00 pm.
And blood donors outside of Georgetown may visit the New Amsterdam Regional Hospital (Tel. 333-2271); West Demerara Regional Hospital (Tel. 254-1256); Suddie Regional Hospital (Tel. 774-4227) or Linden Hospital (tel. 444-6127).
