Heavy overnight and early morning rainfall prevented any play on the first day of the 10th round West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) regional four-day cricket match involving Guyana and Leeward Islands at the Albion Community Centre ground, yesterday.
When the players arrived at the ground through a light drizzle, they were met by the sight of the covers on the pitch, along with water around the western and south western boundary areas of the ground.
When the rain abated at 1100hrs, umpires Maurice Chung and Dheranidranauth Somwaru made an inspection and, at 1115hrs, declared the ground unfit for play for the day.
Play is set to commence at 0930hrs today, weather permitting for even as the players were leaving the venue, dark clouds were hovering overhead.
