-GCA Cellink Plus first division cricket competition

A century from Demerara Cricket Club’s (DCC) opening batsman Troy Nurse enabled them to reach 288-9 declared at the end of the first day of the Georgetown Cricket Association first division match against Transport Sports Club (TSC) yesterday.

Nurse had the distinction of scoring the first century of the GCA Cellink Plus first division competition which commenced yesterday at three venues although play was only possible at two.

Playing at home, the Queenstown team won the toss and batted losing opener Trevon Griffith for 16.

However, Leroy Bristol, better known for his exploits with the ball, starred with the bat hitting 66 while Dennis Squires and Denver Greaves contributed 29 and 22 runs respectively.

Junior Horatio and Omesh Dhaniram were not out on four and one respectively at the declaration.

Stephen Alves grabbed 3-50 from 12 overs while Kevin Alphonso supported with 2-28 from 10 overs.

In reply, TSC were 39-3 with Squires taking two wickets and Horatio one.

At Everest Cricket Club ground Camp Road, the home team batting first after winning the toss reached 79-4 against Malteenoes Sports Club in a rain-affected encounter.

Only 43 overs were possible in the day’s play which began at 2pm.

Former West Indies opener Ryan Ramdass scored 24 and Ryan Rajmangal 15.

Left-arm orthodox spinner Damian Vantull has so far captured three wickets.

And at the Malteenoes Sports Club, no play was possible in the game between the Guyana Defence Force and the Guyana National Industrial Corporation.
