KINGSTOWN, St Vincent, CMC – Combined Campuses and Colleges pulled off only their second win of the WICB regional first class season when they predictably beat the Windward Islands by 165 runs at Arnos Vale yesterday.
The visitors wasted little time in dismissing the Windwards for a paltry 145 at 12:58 pm to claim their first win in two months following their second round triumph over Guyana in Barbados.
Resuming on 31 for three on the final day of the 10th round clash, the Windwards folded meekly, losing their last seven wickets for 114 runs.
Only captain Rawl Lewis (34) and Shane Shillingford (31) offered any resistance.
The damage was done by fast bowler Kevin McClean who finished with four for 31 and off-spinner Ryan Austin who claimed three for 42.
Left-arm spinner Kavesh Kantasingh took two for 39.
With the Windwards already tottering at the start, Donwell Hector did them no favours when he pulled McClean to Kantasingh at deep backward square after he had added just five to his overnight 13.
Kevin James, unbeaten on six overnight, followed him soon after for 12 with the score on 50, caught at second slip by Man-of-the-Match Floyd Reifer essaying an ambitious drive at McClean.
Alston Bobb (5) and Lindon James (8) fell cheaply as Windwards slid towards defeat at 93 for seven and Lewis, who had resisted stoutly striking three fours and two sixes off 61 balls, finally went when he popped left arm spinner Anderson Sealy to short backward square with no addition to the score.
Shillingford, who hit three fours in just under an hour at the crease, then found an equally defiant partner in Mervyn Matthew (19) to add 47 for the ninth wicket, delaying the inevitable until after the lunch interval.
But there were to be no heroics upon resumption, however, as Austin sent back both batsmen quickly to condemn the Windwards to their fourth defeat of the season.
